Auger's OT Goal Gives Penmen 10-9 Win over Saint Michael's

Penmen Clinch an NE10 Playoffs Berth with fifth straight win

Senior Ryan Auger (Hampstead, N.H.) scored 37 seconds into overtime to give SNHU Men's Lacrosse a fifth straight win.  The Penmen secured a Northeast-10 playoff berth with the win.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Auger – 2 goals, 1 assist, 1 ground ball
  • Graduate student Tristan Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) – two goals, 1 assist, 3 ground balls
  • Graduate student Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) – two goals, 1 caused turnover
  • Junior Jack Terrones (Anaheim, Calif.) – 2 goals, 2 ground balls
  • Junior Ronan DePaul (Elkton, Md.) – eight saves
  • Junior Cam Cote (Saco, Maine) – four ground balls, four caused turnovers
KEY MOMENTS
  • Junior Cody Fleming (Plaistow, N.H.) opened the scoring just 59 seconds in with a goal.
  • The Penmen also had goals from Valentine and Terrones, but were tied 3-3 after one.
  • The Purple Knights kept the Penmen off the board in the second quarter, and led 5-3 in the half.
  • SNHU returned the favor, blanking Saint Michael's in the third, rallying to tie on goals by Pietz and Auger.
  • The Penmen then moved in front 7-5 early in the fourth quarter on goals by Terrones and Pietz.
  • Saint Michael's would score the game's next three goals to push in front 8-7 on a man-up goal by Sebastian Simonson.
  • The Penmen tied the game on a goal by Valentine from Pietz with 6:47 to play.
  • The Purple Knights went ahead with 1:56 to go on a goal by Dylan Morgan.
  • SNHU drew back even at 9-9 with 22 seconds remaining in a man-up situation on a goal by senior Tim Krutz (Cheshire, Conn.).  Auger had the assist.
  • Senior Gennaro Marra (Derry, N.H.) won the overtime face-off and the Penmen called time out.
  • Auger buried the game-winner on the first possession of the extra session.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Marra won 15 of 22 face-offs and had nine ground balls.
  • SNHU had a 55-28 shot advantage and a 39-30 edge on ground balls.
  • SNHU was successful on 17 of 21 clears.  Saint Michael's was 22 of 27.
  • The Penmen were 1-for-6 in man-up situations while the Purple Knights were 2-for-3.
  • DePaul recorded eight saves while Saint Michael's goalie Sean Regan had 18 saves.
NOTES
  • SNHU has won the last three meetings with Saint Michael's, but the Purple Knights are up 27-14 all-time.
  • Valentine (103 goals, 35 assists) has 138 career points, which ranks 13th all-time in program history.
  • The Penmen recognized 10 members of the program as part of Senior Day.  In addition to Krutz, Marra, Auger, Pietz, and Valentine, also recognized were Tyler Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.), Ben Yanakakis (Ipswich, Mass.), Alex Sturgess (Derry, N.H.), Eli Steindl (Southington, Conn.), and Tyler Nadeau (Brunswick, Maine).

  • SNHU will close the regular season at Bentley on Tuesday (4/25) at 7:00 p.m.  NE10 playoff match-ups will be announced Tuesday night.
