Dickinson Homer, McKechnie Shutout Leads to Nightcap Win

Junior Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) homered in the third inning, and junior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) went the distance in SNHU's 1-0 win at Assumption Saturday, completing a doubleheader sweep.  The Penmen won the opener 4-1.

KEY MOMENTS -GAME 1
  • The Penmen broke a 0-0 tie with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
  • Ferrier drove in a pair of runs with a double to make it 2-0.
  • Sophomore Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) had an RBI single.
  • Junior Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) also drove in a run with a fielders choice.
  • Hammond had a shutout until the bottom of the sixth inning when Jordan Dwyer tripled and scored on a groundout.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1          
 
  • The Penmen outhit the Greyhounds 6-4.  SNHU also drew six walks. 
  • Junior Abby Hagerty (Marshfield, Mass.) had a pair of hits for the Penmen.
  • Ferrier drove in two runs, giving her five RBI for the week, and 12 for the season.
  • Hammond recorded her second consecutive complete game. 
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 2
  • Dickinson's home run with one out in the top of the third provided the game's only score.
  • McKechnie went the distance, retiring the game's final seven hitters to earn the shutout.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
 
  • Dickinson's home run was her third of the season, and 10th of her career. 
  • The shutout was the second of her career for McKechnie, who allowed three hits.  She walked two and struck out five. 
 
NOTES 
  • The wins extend the current streak to four games, matching the longest win streak of the season.
  • SNHU has won three straight from the Greyhounds.  Assumption leads the all-time series 42-36.
  • SNHU and Assumption, both 9-9 in NE10 play, are in contention for an NE10 playoff berth.

  • SNHU will play a doubleheader at American International College on Monday starting at 2:30 p.m.
  • The next home game is Friday, April 28 against Southern Connecticut State University.  The doubleheader starts at 2:00 p.m.
