Senior Matt Conti (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.) both carded a 1-over 73 in the second round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship on Friday, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team moved up five spots into seventh place with 18 holes remaining Saturday at Iron Valley Golf Club.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
- Conti was three stokes better than his opening-round 76 and is now tied for 16th with a 149.
- Pepin improved on Thursday's round by five shots and is tied for 22nd with a 151.
- Freshman Evan Rollins (Laconia, N.H.) was also three strokes better in the second round, scoring a 74 that has him even with Pepin with a 151.
- Freshman Sean Dully (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) rounded out the Penmen scorers, bettering his opening round by two shots for a 78 that has him at 158 through 36 holes.
- Senior Jeff Liss (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) had his 82 dropped from the team score and has a two-round total of 161.
NOTES
- Davis & Elkins College (594) is in first place, with Le Moyne College (598) four shots behind.
- St. Thomas Aquinas College's Donte Groppuso shot a 69 for the second straight day and is at 6-under 138, which is five strokes better than Davis & Elkins' Jordan Hyland (143).
- Rollins' nine birdies are third most in the tournament.
- The NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship is comprised of 100 golfers from 20 different institutions, as well as eight golfers playing as individuals, representing six different schools.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen will conclude the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship on Saturday (11 a.m.), as they will try and punch their ticket to the NCAA National Championship.
