CARY, N.C. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team spent nearly two hours Saturday morning playing alongside children with the Miracle League of the Triangle in Cary, N.C. The Penmen were participating in its community engagement day at the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.
The Miracle League of the Triangle is a fully inclusive program. Anyone (age 5+) with a diagnosed disability can participate. Members of the Penmen baseball team and coaching staff helped organize the game between the Mudcats and Cannonballers.
"We are grateful to be out here to be able to spend time with these kids, said junior shortstop
Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.). "Baseball is everybody, it teaches you about life and how to have fun."
Freshman
Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.), participating in the Championship for the first time, echoed Rivera. "I love working with kids. It's awesome to give back to the community. I've been playing it seems forever and it's nice to get involved in this way."
Sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire opens the NCAA Division II Championship on Sunday, June 4 (1:30 p.m.) when it meets third-seeded Angelo State University at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
