#9 Men's Soccer Falls at Saint Anselm, 2-0, for First '23 Loss

Estevao Gouveia scored twice in the second half to lead Saint Anselm College to a 2-0 upset victory of the No. 9 Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon at Melucci Field.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Gouveia struck first in the 68th minute to snap the scoreless tie, taking advantage of a 2-on-1 to deposit the ball in the back of the net.
  • He doubled the Saint Anselm lead in the 74th minute, turning and hitting a rocket from the top of the box that sailed into the left side of the net.

  • Southern New Hampshire still leads the all-time series with Saint Anselm, 34-9-6. This marks the first time the Hawks have defeated the Penmen in two straight meetings. SNHU is unbeaten in 19 of its last 22 against Saint Anselm (15-3-4). It is the first time Saint Anselm has beaten the Penmen at home since Sept. 13, 2000 (2-0). SNHU was 9-0-3 across town over its last 12 prior to Wednesday's loss. The Hawks extend their shutout streak against the Penmen to 249:22. They last allowed a goal to SNHU in the 21st minute of a 2-0 loss Oct. 27, 2021.
  • SNHU is now 126-32-22 (.761) over its last 180 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
