Freshman Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) won the deciding match at No. 4 singles to lift the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team to a 4-3 road victory against the University of New Haven on Tuesday afternoon at the New Haven Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Lyekontseva outlasted Alyssa Rodriguez, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, at No. 4 singles to clinch the match.
- Sophomore Alina Kupfer (Baldham, Germany) was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles against Valentinna Ferrarini.
- Senior Eleonora Guglielmetti (Novara, Italy) rallied to defeat Alexa Orlando, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.
- Freshman Nadia Alden (Edmond, Okla.) took down Madi Mabrito, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6 singles. She also teamed with junior Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H.) for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Mabrito and Orlando.
NOTES
- In the deciding doubles point match at No. 2, Guglielmetti and freshman Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) narrowly fell to Risako Umekuni and Lucia Placidi, 7-6 (7-5).
- The Penmen improve to 14-1 all-time against New Haven and have now won four straight in the series. SNHU is now a perfect 7-0 on the road against the Chargers.

- The Penmen return to action Thursday (Sept. 28) at 3 p.m. when they take on Bentley University.
