Knight Matches Career-High 24 as Penmen Beat Hawks 66-55

SNHU Completes Season Sweep of Saint Anselm Wednesday

Senior Jess Knight (Hanover, Mass.) matched her career-high with 24 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as SNHU completed a regular-season sweep of Saint Anselm College with a 66-55 win on Wednesday at the Stan Spirou Field House.

  • Knight – 24 points (7-11 FG, 10-12 FT), 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks
  • Graduate student Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) – 15 points (3-7 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 8-9 FT), 5 rebounds, 6 assists
  • Sophomore Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) – 12 points (5-12 FG, 2-4 3-FG), 5 rebounds
  • Freshman Abby Wager (Mansfield, Mass.) – 8 points (2-6 3-FG, 2-4 FT), 5 rebounds, 4 assists
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen hit only four field goals in the first quarter but had a 21-15 at the break thanks to 11-of-12 made free throws.  Knight hit 7-of-8 from the line in the quarter.
  • SNHU failed to score for 5:51 of the second quarter, but a free throw by junior Megan Deans (Winterport, Maine) and a three-pointer by Timberlake gave the Penmen a 31-29 halftime lead.
  • Neither team could create separation in a well-contested third quarter.  A three-point field goal by graduate student Macy Spinks (Luton, U.K.), her first bucket of the night, put SNHU up 48-44 and the Hawks answered with a couple of late free throws by Tatum Forbes.
  • The Penmen went on an 11-2 run to open the fourth quarter to build a double-digit lead for the first time in the game at 59-48 and the Hawks could get no closer than eight points the rest of the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU finished the game 19-47 (40.4%) and 6-17 (35.3%) from three-point range.  
  • Saint Anselm was 21-62 (33.9%) and 3-15 (20.0%) from downtown.
  • The Penmen hit 22-31 (71.0%) from the line – Saint Anselm was 10-20 (50.0%).
  • SNHU had a 42-35 rebounding advantage for the contest.
  • Saint Anselm turned the ball over 10 times while the Penmen had 17.
  • The Hawks had a 30-24 edge on points in the paint and won bench scoring 18-3.
  • Knight's double-double was her fifth of the season.
NOTES
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series against SNHU 52-25, but the Penmen have won six of the last seven and four straight.
  • SNHU is now 54-20 (.730) since the start of the 2021-22 season.
  • Timberlake continues to climb the all-time scoring list, now at 1395 points.  That ranks fifth all-time.  Next up on the list is Julia Ciarcia (1987-91) with 1402 points.
  • The Penmen (9-3) are currently tied for second place in the NE10 with the College of Saint Rose and Assumption University.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen head to Franklin Pierce University for a contest this coming Saturday.
  • The next home game will be on Saturday, February 3 at 1:30 p.m. against the University of New Haven.  That contest will serve as the annual Pink Day Game at the Stan Spirou Field House.
