Junior Caelan Cook (Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) rattled off a Penmen career-high 10 kills, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire was within 21-18 in the opening set, but New Haven reeled off the final four points to go up, 1-0, in the match.
  • The Chargers jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the second stanza and did not let the Penmen get within fewer than eight the rest of the way.
  • It was a two-point set at 18-16 in the third, but New Haven notched five of the next seven to inch away and go up, 23-18. Three of the next four trimmed the SNHU deficit to 24-21, but a match-ending kill won it for the Chargers.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Set scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-21.
  • Senior Deanne Wilson (Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied seven kills and eight digs.
  • Sophomore Elsa Gilmore (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) recorded six kills.
  • Sophomore Daya Jean-Baptiste (Miami, Fla.) posted five kills and a pair of digs.
  • Senior Julia Cavalcanti (Vineyard, Utah) added four kills, an ace and two blocks.
  • New Haven outhit SNHU in all three sets, including .377-.120, overall.
  • The Chargers also owned advantages in aces (3-2) and blocks (8-3).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has split its last four matches.
  • New Haven leads the all-time series, 19-2, and has captured nine of the last 10. UNH is also 9-1 against the Penmen at home.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Tuesday, Oct. 15 (7 p.m.) when they play host to American International College at the Stan Spirou Field House.
