Wiersma's Eight-Point Game Leads Penmen To 11-0 Win Over STAC

#5 SNHU Finishes Best-Ever Regular Season 15-2 (12-1 NE10)

Senior Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, The Netherlands) scored three goals and added two assists as #5 SNHU field hockey celebrated Senior Day with an 11-0 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College.  The Penmen conclude its best-ever regular season at 15-2.

 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS  KEY MOMENTS
 
  • Wiersma scored a goal in each of the first three quarters including the game-winner just 1:52 into the game when she rolled the ball into the left corner off a pass from van de Poll.
  • van de Poll made it 2-0 when she tipped in a pass from Christis with 1:43 left in the first.
  • The Penmen built a 6-0 lead by halftime which included a highlight-reel play when senior Carley Lovejoy (Kennebunk, Maine) elevated a pass and Paradzick slapped it in with 3:15 to play in the second quarter.
  • Wiersma completed her hat trick midway through the third quarter off a pass from freshman Julia Giampietro (Sandwich, Mass.).
  • Christis scored twice in the second half for SNHU.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU had a 31-6 shot advantage including 23-2 on goal.
  • The Penmen had a 6-5 edge on penalty corners.
NOTES
  • SNHU improves to 7-2 all-time against Saint Thomas Aquinas.
  • SNHU was ranked fifth in Tuesday's NFHCA (Field Hockey Coaches) poll.
  • The Penmen completed the Northeast-10 season at 12-1, with the loss to Assumption University.  The Greyhounds finished at 13-0 and will be the top-seed in the tournament.
  • Christis leads NCAA Division II with 27 goals and has 12 multi-goal games this season.
  • Peeters has allowed just two goals in her last ten starts (600 minutes) and her goals-against average is 0.74, second best in the nation.
  • Wiersma's eight-point game (3 G, 2 A) give her 55 career points, the fourth highest total in program history.
  • The five points for van de Poll were a season-high.
  • Crocombe scored her first two goals of the season.
  • The 11 goals were the most scored in a contest for SNHU since a 12-1 win over New Haven on 10/21/17.
  • The Penmen recognized eight members of their program on "Senior Day".  Hannah Dobecki (Scarborough, Maine), Suzanne Bussemaker (Bussum, The Netherlands), Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.), Wiersma, Peeters, Lovejoy, Christis, and Bates.
