Men's Basketball Charges Past Saint Michael's, 95-69

Henderson drops career-high 27 points

Senior Kurtis Henderson (Brockton, Mass.) poured in a career-high 27 points, and senior Paul Greene (Freeport, Bahamas) notched a monster double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to a 95-69 triumph over Saint Michael's College on Tuesday evening at the Stan Spirou Field House.

 KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed 10-7 more than six minutes into the contest when it ripped off 19 straight points to open a 26-10 advantage with 8:56 remaining in the opening half. Henderson led the way with seven points, while Greene and Daniels added four each. A 3-pointer from senior Jhamyl Fricas (Lawrence, Mass.) gave SNHU its largest lead of the half at 44-24 with 2:21 to go and the Penmen would bring a 45-31 lead into the locker room.
  • It was a 13-point game more than a minute into the second half when a 14-2 burst – powered by six points from Greene and five from Henderson – ballooned the lead to 61-36 with 15:06 remaining. A 10-3 stretch later in the contest – capped by a reverse-dunk follow by senior Brenden Choate (Nashua, N.H.) – gave the Penmen their largest lead of the game at 76-47 with 7:11 to go. The Purple Knights would not get closer than 22 the rest of the way.

  • Choate registered a career-high seven points (3-4 FG, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists.
  • Junior Royce Williams (Manchester, N.H.) tallied seven points (3-5 FG, 1-2 3-FG), two rebounds, two assists and three steals.
  • Senior Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Springs, Md.) posted five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3-FG) and four boards.
  • Freshman Dante Green (Dix Hills, N.Y.) netted five points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3-FG) in three minutes off the bench.
  • Senior Noah Harris (Manalapan, N.J.) added three points (1-5 FG, 1-4 3-FG) and two assists.
  • Fricas chipped in three points (1-3 FG, 1-3 3-FG).
  • Senior Derrick Grant Jr. (Piscataway, N.J.), playing only 13 minutes due to foul trouble, scored two points (1-2 FG) and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Freshman Umari Seney (Malden, Mass.) recorded two points (1-2 FG).
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot Saint Michael's, 51.5 percent (34-66) to 39.3 percent (24-61), including 43.5 percent (10-23) to 26.3 percent (10-38) from beyond the arc. The Penmen were also plus-6 from the line and shot it better, 94.4 percent (17-18) to 57.9 percent (11-19).
  • The Penmen captured the glass (44-29) and the paint (44-26), scored more points off turnovers (21-13), second chance points (22-12) and on the fast break (20-6), and submitted a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (17/11-8/12), while the Purple Knights received more scoring from their bench (35-29).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has captured three of its last four.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 45-15, and has won 20 of the last 24 meetings, including nine of 10. The Penmen have also won 11 of 12 at home versus the Purple Knights.
  • Greene's double-double is his six of the season and of his career.
  • Greene is averaging 14.3 rebounds per game through the first six contests of year – the second best in the nation.
