KEY MOMENTS
  • Wager and graduate student Macy Spinks (Luton, U.K.) bookended a 10-0 run to begin the game for Southern New Hampshire over the opening two-and-a-half minutes with 3-pointers. The lead was still 10 two minutes later when American International scored 11-in-a-row to jump in front, 15-14, with 3:05 left in the first quarter. The game of runs continued with the Penmen scoring 12 straight – highlighted by a pair of Timberlake treys – to grab a 26-15 advantage with under 30 seconds on the clock. AIC would trim the deficit to 26-17 at the end of one.
  • Four straight points from Knight to begin the second stanza gave SNHU its largest lead of the contest at 30-17 less than a minute in. The Yellow Jackets scored seven straight to make it a six-point game and would trail, 43-36, at the break.
  • AIC scored seven straight to tie the game at 49 with four minutes left in the third quarter and the game would move to the final frame even at 61-all.
  • The Yellow Jackets scored the first basket of the fourth quarter and led, 70-67, near the midway point of the stanza when the Penmen netted six straight as part of a game-ending 17-6 burst. Timberlake and Wager produced seven and six points, respectively, during the stretch.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) posted six points (2-2 FG, 2-2 FT), eight boards and a pair of assists.
  • Sophomore Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) notched six points (3-9 FG), five rebounds and two blocks.
  • Spinks netted six points (2-3 FG, 2-3 3-FG) and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot American Int'l, 47.4 percent (27-57) to 45.3 percent (29-64), including 50 percent (7-14) to 33.3 percent (7-21) from downtown. The Penmen were also better from the line, 85.2 percent (23-27) to 61.1 percent (11-18).
  • The Penmen narrowly won the glass (37-34), scored more points on the fast break (13-5) and received more scoring from their bench (6-5), while the Yellow Jackets netted more points off turnovers (11-9) and second chance points (11-6), and featured a slightly more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (10/10-10/11). Points in the paint were even (36-36).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won 11 of its last 13 contests, including seven straight.
  • American Int'l still leads the all-time series with Southern New Hampshire, 25-19, but SNHU has won 10 of the last 11 meetings, including eight straight. The Penmen have also been victorious in five of the last six, including four-in-a-row, on the road against AIC, which has not won a home game versus SNHU since March 1, 2019 (79-55).
  • The Penmen scored a 69-49 home victory back on Jan. 10 and have now swept the regular-season series in four straight years.
  • SNHU is now 60-20 (.750) since the start of the 2021-22 season, including 32-10 (.762) away from the Stan Spirou Field House.
  • Timberlake has scored 20-plus points in five consecutive games, including a pair of 30-point performances, and is averaging 25.8 points per game during that stretch. It is the longest such stretch of her career, surpassing the three-game streak she put together Jan. 3-10 earlier this season. The five straight games of 20 or more points is the longest for a Penmen since at least the 2009-10 season. Sloane Sorrell had two stretches during the 2011-12 campaign where she reached 20 points in four of five games, with the fifth being a 19-point performance.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Feb. 17 (1:30 p.m.) when they play host to Pace University at Stan Spirou Field House in a game that will air on WGIR 610-AM and Fox Sports New Hampshire 930-AM.
