Flynn Named NE10 Ice Hockey Player of the Week

Penmen Swept Franklin Pierce Over the Weekend

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Senior Derek Flynn (Dracut, Mass.) has been named NE10 Player of the Week for the period January 29- February 4.  The Penmen swept Franklin Pierce University  in NE10 action over the weekend.  The awards were announced on Monday afternoon.

Flynn, a defenseman, had scored one career goal heading into the weekend set.  He recorded an assist on SNHU's first goal on Friday, and then buried a deep blast to make it 2-0 in a game the Penmen won 3-2.  On Saturday, Flynn picked up a rebound of his own miss and connected on a slap shot from just inside the blue line.  The power-play goal gave SNHU a 2-1 lead in a game they would win 3-2 in overtime.

This is his first weekly award with the Penmen.

SNHU (10-11-1/8-7-1 NE10) is off until Friday (Feb. 9) when they travel to Saint Anselm for a 7:00 p.m. contest.  With four games remaining in the regular season, the Penmen are currently alone in second-place in the NE10 standings as teams position for the playoffs which start on February 20.
