INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team collected its fifth selection to the NCAA Championship tournament – and third straight – when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 64 teams Sunday evening.
Southern New Hampshire (17-10), which earned an at-large bid, is the East Region's No. 5 seed and will take on fourth-seeded Thomas Jefferson University (30-1) in the opening round Friday, March 15 (7:30 p.m.) at Bentley University, which is hosting the East Regional at the Dana Center. Jefferson, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Champions, leads the all-time series, 2-0, including a 62-49 victory over SNHU in the NCAA East Region semifinals last season at Assumption University's Laska Gymnasium.
The winner of SNHU/Jefferson will meet the victor of top-seeded Bentley (26-5) and eighth-seeded Mercy University (20-9) on Saturday (March 16). The winner from that contest will punch its ticket to the regional final on Monday (March 18).
The Elite Eight will take place at the St. Joseph Civic Center in St. Joseph, Mo., with the national quarterfinals tipping off March 25, the semifinals taking place March 27 and the NCAA National Championship Game being played March 29.
SNHU will be making its fifth appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship and will be seeking its second NCAA postseason win after collecting it first last season with a 65-44 opening-round victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. The Penmen are 1-4 (.200) all-time in the NCAA tourney.
NCAA Digital has partnered with Hudl to utilize the Hudl platform to stream all regionals games and the Elite Eight. Contests will be webcast on NCAA.com, the Hudl platform and an OTT app – "NCAA Championships Pass." Fans will have three viewing options: $9.95 per contest, $29.95 for all Division II Women's Basketball Championship games excluding the semifinals and championship game, and $49.95 for all Division II Women's and Men's Basketball Championship games, excluding the semifinals and championship games. The semifinals and finals of the Division II Women's Basketball Championship will be carried on CBS Sports Network.
