Saint Michael's Overtakes Men's Lacrosse Late for 12-11 Win

Auger, Lynch score three times

Graduate student Ryan Auger (Hampstead, N.H.) and freshman Ryan Lynch (Derry, N.H.) each scored three times, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team was edged by Saint Michael's College, 12-11, Friday afternoon at Duffy Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire twice answered goals from Saint Michael's over the initial 9:05 to leave the game tied, 2-2, but the Purple Knights would score two more times to exit the first quarter with a 4-2 advantage.
  • Auger and Serina bookended the second-quarter scoring, which featured a pair of SMC goals in between, as the hosts would bring a 6-4 lead to the break.
  • Lynch and Auger each scored two goals during a third quarter that saw the Penmen hold a 4-1 scoring advantage to jump into the lead at 8-7 going to the final frame.
  • Fourth-quarter tallies from graduate student Tim Krutz (Cheshire, Conn.), Bua and Serina answered Saint Michael's goals to keep SNHU in front, 11-10, with 6:54 remaining. The Purple Knights, however, would answer 54 seconds later to tie the game for the fourth time in the final frame, and then found the back of the net with 1:11 on the clock for the eventual game winner.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Krutz scored a goal, picked up a ground ball and caused a turnover.
  • Senior Cody Fleming (Plaistow, N.H. scored a goal.
  • Graduate student Cam Cote (Saco, Maine) collected an assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Freshman Luke Wiedemann (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Saint Michael' outshot Southern New Hampshire, 52-40, including 34-17 in the opening half.
  • The Penmen owned a 40-30 advantage in ground balls.
  • SNHU was 14-for-16 on clear attempts while SMC was 22-for-24.
  • The Penmen had 15 turnovers and caused 11 turnovers.
  • SNHU converted its only man-up situation and the Purple Knights were 2-for-4.
NOTES
  • Saint Michael's leads the all-time series, 28-14, including 17-6 at home. SNHU had won seven of eight entering the contest, including three of the last four at SMC.
  • Auger leads the Penmen with 11 assists and eight goals for 19 points.
  • Lynch is the top goal-scorer for SNHU with 12.
