Softball Bats Cooled Off at East Stroudsburg

Penmen Drop Pair 6-1 and 1-0 Saturday

Senior Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with a double, and senior Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) had a pair of hits, driving in a run, but softball saw its hot bats cooled off at East Stroudsburg Saturday.

GAME 1:  EAST STROUDSBURG 6-1
  • Freshman Charlotte Donovan (Biddeford, Maine) made her first start in the circle (3.0 IP- 3 ER).
  • The Warriors scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to the 6-1 win.
  • The lone Penmen run crossed in the top of the seventh inning.
  • Donovan reached on an error and Ferrier singled her to second base.  A groundout by Feldman moved Donovan to third.
  • Dickinson drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • Senior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) came in relief in the fourth inning, pitching the rest of the game (3.0 IP – 2 ER)
NOTES:
  • Abigail Weirich went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Paige Zigmund improved to 10-1 for the Warriors, allowing just the one unearned run.
  • Ferrier, Dickinson, and Feldman each had two hits for the Penmen.
  • Dickinson's double was SNHU's only extra-base hit.
GAME 2: EAST STROUDSBURG 1-0
  • Colbert made her first start for the Penmen, and went the distance, allowing one run.
  • The teams were scoreless heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. 
  • Weirich reached on an infield single and stole second. 
  • A two-out single by Delaney Ridgell plated the winning run.
  • The only hit for the Penmen was a double by Ferrier in the top of the third inning.
  • Sarah Davenport took over in the circle after the double and held the Penmen hitless the rest of the game with ten strikeouts to earn the win.
NOTES:
  • East Stroudsburg swept a doubleheader from the Penmen for the second straight year and the Warriors lead the all-time series 5-1. 
  • The Penmen have won seven of the last ten games.
  • Seven of Ari Ferrier's hits this season have been for extra bases with a team-leading six doubles and a home run.
  • In two appearances, one start, and one relief outing, Colbert has allowed two runs (one earned) in 10 innings for a 0.70 ERA. 
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will finish the road trip with a Sunday (March 17) doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.  The games start at 1:00 p.m.
  • The first scheduled home game at the SNHU Softball Field is against Mercy University on Saturday, March 23 at Noon.
