Penmen Roll Past Goldey-Beacom 15-4 for Doubleheader Split

Sophomore Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI as SNHU Softball rolled past Goldey-Beacom 15-4 to earn a split of Sunday's doubleheader in Wilmington, Del.  The host Lightning won 3-0 in the first game.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME 1:  GOLDEY-BEACOM 3-0
  • The Lightning scored single runs in the first two innings for a 2-0 lead and received a strong start from Abigail O'Shields in the circle. 
  • Feldman doubled to start the game and Donovan had a third-inning single, but the Penmen did not cash in.
  • A single by Gifford to start the SNHU fifth inning, and a double by junior Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.).
  • Goldey-Beacom added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • Junior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) started in the circle, allowing two runs in her 2.1 innings.
  • Senior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkaeg, Maine) finished up with 4.2 innings of hitless relief, allowing one unearned run.
GAME 2: SNHU 15-4 (6 inn.)
  • The bats were alive in the second for the Penmen, producing 19 hits and a season-high 15 runs.
  • Three players had four hits- Feldman, Gifford, and Dickinson.
  • The Penmen took a 3-1 lead to the top of the fifth inning and scored five times, then added seven in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Gifford singled in a run in the first for a 1-0 lead and Dickinson's RBI single in the second produced another run.
  • Feldman drove in a run with a double in the third inning to make it 3-1.
  • In the fifth, Bruggeman had an RBI single, Feldman ripped a three-run double and then scored on a single by Dickinson.
  • Senior Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) had a two-run single in the seventh to put SNHU up 10-4.
  • Feldman and Dickinson drove in runs with a single and Bruggeman added two more with another single.
  • Freshman Juliana Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) earned the win, allowing four earned runs in 4.2 innings.
  • Senior Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) finished up with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
NOTES:
  • The Penmen went 3-3 for the six games in the Philadelphia area.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series 2-1.  The only other game between the schools came in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 2019.
  • SNHU raised the team batting average back up to .302 with the second-game outburst.
  • Feldman is hitting a team-leading .433 with 29 hits in 67 at-bats, including six doubles.
