Senior Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with a home run, but Softball dropped its home-opening doubleheader to Assumption 3-2 and 3-1 on Monday.

GAME 1:  ASSUMPTION 3-2

• The Greyhounds scored in the top of the first inning.  Kaitlyn Cahill walked and scored on a double by Grace Heim.
• The Penmen scored its runs in the bottom of the first.  Feldman led off with a single and DiMauro doubled her home, advancing to third on a throwing error.
• A single by junior Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) and a fielders choice by Lineman made it 2-1.
• Assumption tied the game on an RBI single by Corin Mahan in the top of the third. 
• In the top of the sixth, a two-out single by Jaiden Tonucci and a double by Jordan Dwyer was the game-winner.
• Anna Tassone shut down the Penmen over the final 5.2 innings with significant support from her defense to earn the win. 
• McKechnie followed freshman Charlotte Donovan (Biddeford, Maine) in the circle for SNHU, allowing just one run in her four innings, but took the loss.

GAME 2: ASSUMPTION 3-1

• Assumption scored its three runs in the top of the first inning off starter and losing pitcher junior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.)
• The Greyhounds recorded four consecutive two-out singles with Summer Sheerin and Tonucci driving in the runs.
• Ferrier homered leading off the fifth inning to make it 3-1.
• Assumption's Samantha Hardwich went the distance for the win.
• Colbert worked five innings of two-hit, scoreless relief for the Penmen.

NOTES:

• SNHU was playing for the first time in fifteen days after losing games to the weather the last two weekends.
• The Penmen played 14 innings of errorless baseball.
• Assumption went 5-for-18 (.278) with runners in scoring position in the doubleheader while the Penmen went just 1-for-11 (.091).
• Assumption leads the all-time series with the Penmen 45-37.
• Feldman continues to lead the team in hitting at .427 (32-for-75).  Her OBP is .449.
• Ferrier's home run was her second of the season and second of her career.  She had homered in the season opener on March 2 against Winona State.

WHAT'S NEXT

• The Penmen are scheduled to host American International College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday (Apr. 4) at 2 p.m.
