MANSFIELD, Mass. –- Sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was selected as NE10 Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 14, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
DeMaro went 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in two starts during a 4-2 week for SNHU. DeMaro allowed four earned runs on eight hits over 13 innings, striking out 10 and walking four. In Tuesday's 13-4 victory against Saint Anselm College, DeMaro gave up three runs – two earned – on five hits, with seven punchouts and three walks, over six innings. He then went the distance in a seven-inning, 10-2 win over American International College on Sunday in the second game of a doubleheader. Carrying a one-hitter into the seventh inning, DeMaro finished with two runs on three hits over seven innings, fanning three and walking just one.
In 10 appearances this, including seven starts, DeMaro is 2-2 with a save and 1.72 ERA. He has allowed just 35 hits over 47 innings, while striking out 41 and walking 14. At the plate, he is batting ,300 (15-50) with a home run, nine RBI and 12 runs scored. DeMaro is leading the league in ERA, while ranking third in WHIP (1.04) and 11th in strikeouts.
DeMaro and the Penmen are back in action Wednesday (April 17) at 3:30 p.m. when they play host to cross-town rival Saint Anselm College.
