McKechnie Earns Shutout Win and Save in Doubleheader Sweep

Softball Tops Saint Michael's 9-0, 6-4 on Tuesday in Vermont

Senior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) pitched in both games, earning a win and a save, as SNHU softball swept a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Saint Michael's College Tuesday.

GAME 1:  SNHU 9-0 (5 inn.)
  • McKechnie tossed a three-hit shutout to earn her eighth win (8-5).
  • A two-run double by Feldman and an RBI single by Dickinson gave the Penmen a 3-0 in the top of the second inning.
  • Resetar hit her third home run in the top of the third inning.
  • Dickinson had an RBI single and Bruggeman hit a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning for a 9-0 lead.
GAME 2: SNHU 6-4 (8 inn.)
  • Angelica Johns gave the Purple Knights an early lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning.
  • SNHU tied the game on a sacrifice fly by senior Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) in the second, and took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third when Ferrier homered and Lineman delivered an RBI single.
  • Saint Michael's rallied to take a 4-3 lead with a three-run fifth, but the Penmen came back to tie on Bruggeman's sacrifice fly in the sixth.
  • In the decisive eighth, Dickinson singled and Gifford doubled her win with what proved to be the game-winning hit.  After Bruggeman walked, Resetar singled down the left field line to make it 6-4.
  • Freshman Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) worked the first four innings in the circle, and senior Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) went the next two innings.
  • Freitas (W, 4-6) followed with 1.1 innings pitched, and McKechnie recorded the final two outs for her first save of the season.
NOTES:
  • The Penmen have won eight of nine games and 10 of the last 12.   
  • Feldman has reached base in her last 10 games and Lineman has reached in nine straight.
  • Feldman's .390 average leads the Penmen.
  • Bruggeman moves into a tie for second in the NE10 with 28 RBIs.  She is also second with six home runs.
  • The Penmen hold a 48-10 advantage in the all-time series with Saint Michael's, extending the current win streak to 16 games.
