BOSTON – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was recognized as the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division II Team of the Year on Friday, while Chris Shank was selected as the Division II Coach of the Year.
The Penmen are 36-17, including a 20-7 mark in NE10 play that nabbed them their seventh straight NE10 Northeast Division crown, as well as the Division's No. 1 seed. Despite a loss in the opening round of the NE10 Championship, SNHU earned its 12th consecutive NCAA Championship berth, swept through the NCAA East Regional I pod and posted two come-from-behind victories in the NCAA East Super-Regional to claim its fourth straight East Region crown and trip to the Division II Baseball Championship in Cary, N.C.
Shank, in his first season as the head coach of the Penmen, was also selected as the Bob Bellizzi NE10 Coach of the Year. SNHU led the league in RBI, walks and on-base percentage, while ranking second in runs, batting average, home runs and slugging percentage. He is the first head coach since 2021 to advance to the D2 World Series in his first season.
The sixth-seeded Penmen open the NCAA Division II Championship on Sunday (June 2) at 1:30 p.m. against Catawba College at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
