 KEY MOMENTS
  • In a back-and-forth first half that saw neither team lead by more than three until the final six minutes, Southern New Hampshire trailed by two when seven straight gave it a 21-16 advantage with 5:57 left. SNHU took its largest lead at 32-25 on a Daniels 3-pointer with 3:08 to go, but Adelphi scored eight-in-a-row to leapfrog in front, 33-32, with 90 seconds on the clock. A Daniels jumper with 31 ticks remaining sent the Penmen to the locker room with a 34-33 lead.
  • Adelphi opened the second half with a 17-6 run that gave it a 50-40 lead just over five minutes in. Facing its largest deficit to that point at 54-43 a couple of minutes later, SNHU reeled off nine of the next 11 points to get back within 56-52 with 7:26 to play. The Panthers answered, however, with a 13-5 rush that gave them their largest lead at 69-57 with 3:12 remaining. The Penmen would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Senior Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Spring, Md.) posted eight points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 3-5 FT), four rebounds and two steals.
  • Senior Noah Harris (Manalapan, N.J.) recorded six points (2-7 FG, 2-6 3-FG), three rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Playing a career-high 31 minutes off the bench, junior Royce Williams (Manchester, N.H.) notched three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 FT) and a career-best seven rebounds.
  • Senior Brenden Choate (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in two points (1-3 FG) in his first career start.
  • Adelphi outshot Southern New Hampshire, 45.9 percent (28-61) to 35.7 percent (20-56), including 40 percent (10-25) to 24 percent (6-25) from behind the arc. The Penmen were plus-8 from the line and shot it better, 78.9 percent (15-19) to 53.8 percent (7-13).
  • The Panthers captured the glass (42-32) and the paint (26-24), scored more points off turnovers (24-2), second chance points (10-2) and on the fast break (10-3), received from scoring from its bench (17-11) and submitted a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (17/11-8/11).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire had captured nine of its last 11, including eight of nine.
  • Adelphi, receiving votes in both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Coaches Poll and the Division II College Sport Communicators (D2CSC) Media Poll, has won 11 straight and sits atop the NE10 standings.
  • The Penmen were attempting to defeat the three top teams in the NE10 standings and end three double-digit win streaks in doing so. SNHU edged No. 7/13 Pace University, 64-62, which was a perfect 13-0, on Sunday, and snapped No. 24/RV Assumption University's 11-game win streak with a 69-66 victory Wednesday.
  • SNHU, which leads the all-time series with Adelphi 16-11, has won six of 11, including four of six. The teams have split the most recent 16 meetings, with the Panthers having won five of the last six on their home court.
  • Daniels, who has scored in double figures in all but one contest this season, has been SNHU's leading scorer in each of the last seven games, averaging 21.6 points per game over that stretch.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, Jan. 14 (7:30 p.m.) when they play host to cross-town rival Saint Anselm College at the Stan Spirou Field House.
