Kurtis Henderson (Brockton, Mass.) each scored 19 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team nearly erased a 19-point, second-half deficit, only to fall short against cross-town rival Saint Anselm College, 83-81, Tuesday at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
- Saint Anselm led, 16-14, just over seven minutes in when a 9-2 spurt made it a 10-point advantage at 28-18 with 10:43 remaining in the first half. Seven straight more than two minutes later gave the Hawks their largest lead of the half at 40-24 with 7:28 to go. A 3-pointer from Fricas with 3:17 on the clock sparked a half-ending 10-2 rush – with the final five coming from Henderson – to trim Southern New Hampshire's halftime deficit to 49-42.
- The visitors open the second half with a 16-4 burst that ballooned their lead to its largest of the night at 65-46 nearly five-and-a-half minutes in. It was a 17-point game with under eight-and-a-half minutes remaining when SNHU ripped off a 20-5 run that slashed its deficit to 79-77 with 25.1 seconds on the clock. Senior Kyle Rocker (Lawrence, Mass.) and Fricas led the way with five points during the stretch, while Henderson and Grant each added four. The lead was 83-81 for Saint Anselm with five seconds left when it attempted a long inbound pass that was intercepted just over mid-court by Fricas. The Penmen had a look at a game-winning 3-pointer, but it did not fall as time expired.

- Senior Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied seven points (3-8 FG, 1-4 3-FG), seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Rocker netted five points in a crucial six-and-a-half minutes off the bench.
- Freshman Dante Green (Dix Hills, N.Y.) recorded four points (2-4 FG), two rebounds, a block and a steal.
- Senior Noah Harris (Manalapan, N.J.) chipped in three points (1-5 FG, 1-4 3-FG).
- Senior Brenden Choate (Nashua, N.H.) added one point (1-2 FT), two boards and a pair of assists.
- Junior Royce Williams (Manchester, N.H.) grabbed four rebounds.
- Saint Anselm outshot Southern New Hampshire, 46.7 percent (28-60) to 37.5 percent (27-72), including 38.5 percent (10-26) to 35.1 percent (13-37) from long range. The Penmen shot it better from the line, 87.5 percent (14-16) to 81 percent (17-21).
- The Penmen won the glass (40-38), scored more points off turnovers (15-3) and second chance points (9-6), and turned in a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (14/6-13/12), while the Hawks captured the paint (32-22), scored more on the fast break (14-10) and received from scoring from their bench (29-14).
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire drops back-to-back games for the first time since the season's opening weekend Nov. 9-10.
- Saint Anselm leads the all-time series with SNHU, 42-37, having won 11 of the last 14 meetings, including 10 of 11. The Hawks have also won six of eight at SNHU, dating back to the 2017 NE10 Championship title game March 4, 2017.
- Grant's double-double is his third of the season and the fifth of his career.
- Saint Anselm earns one point in the Queen City Cup standings, but SNHU leads, 15-7, in the battle for Manchester supremacy.
- SNHU dips to 53-21 (.716) at home over the last six seasons, including 6-2 this year.
- The Penmen held a small ring ceremony after the game to honor last season's team that captured both the NE10 and NCAA East Regional Championships. Former players from last year's squad, including Matt Becht, Preston Santos and Alex Rivera, were in attendance.
