Penmen Rally After Slow Start, But Fall Short Thursday

Junior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) scored a team-high 15 points, but SNHU Women's Basketball fell short in its comeback bid, falling 70-55 to #3/4 Bentley University in Northeast-10 play on Thursday.

•    Gordon – 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists
•    Freshman Kameron St. Pierre (Swansea, Mass.) – 8 points (3-8 FG, 2-4 3-PT), 4 rebounds, 1 assists, 2 steals
•    Graduate student Stephanie Davis (Windham, N.H.) 7 points (2-9 FG, 3-4 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks
•    Sophomore Madison Hughes (Columbia, Conn.) – 6 points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 1-3 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block
•    Sophomore Abby Wager (Mansfield, Mass.)- 6 points (3-9 FG)

KEY MOMENTS
•    Bentley had a terrific first quarter shooting to build a 28-16 lead.  The Falcons hit 11-of-19 (57.9%) including 6-of-10 three-point field goals.
•    Gordon led the Penmen with three field goals and six points in the first frame.
•    The second quarter would see Bentley open a 22 point lead at 41-19 before SNHU rallied with a 12-0 run to close within 10 at the break 41-31.
•    The Penmen hit 6-of-12 in the third quarter to close within 51-45 after three quarters.
•    SNHU had a chance to take its first lead on a three-point shot by freshman Kameron St. Pierre (Swansea, Mass.) with 6:52 to go.  The Falcons would hold the Penmen scoreless until Gordon hit a lay-up with 49 seconds left in the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
•    Sophomore Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) finished with 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
•    The Penmen shot 22-for-59(37.3%) including 4-for-19 (21.1%) from three-point range and 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the line.
•    The Falcons were led by Kylie DuCharme and Maggie Whitmore, who each scored 15 points.
•    Bentley was 27-for-58 (46.6%) from the floor, 11-32 (34.4%) from beyond the arc, and 5-for-10 (50%) from the line.
•    Each team had 36 rebounds.  
•    Bentley turned the ball over 13 times while the Penmen had 15.
•    SNHU had a 34-26 edge on points in the paint and 13-11 on second chance points.

NOTES
•    SNHU saw its three-game win streak snapped by the Falcons, who have won eight consecutive games since falling November 20 to Adelphi.
•    The Penmen trail the all-time series with Bentley 50-9.
•    SNHU is 66-31 (.680) since the 2021-22 season started, which includes three wins over the Falcons.
•    The teams will meet again on February 25 in the regular season finale in Waltham, Mass.
