Win Streak Extends To Five For Field Hockey

Battis Scores First Career Goal at Mercy In 3-1 Win

The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team used a dominant first-quarter performance to extend its winning streak to five games, defeating Mercy College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Northeast 10 Conference action.

KEY MOMENT

Freshman Addison Battis (Fairfield, Maine) scored her first career goal midway through the opening quarter to help the Penmen jump out to an early lead. Senior Kim Dull (Wilnis, Netherlands) opened the scoring in the seventh minute with her fifth goal of the season on a penalty stroke, and Battis doubled the advantage at 12:24, finishing off a pass from Jade Hendriks (Huissen, Netherlands). Less than a minute later, Zoe Demers (Manchester, N.H.) added her team-leading 10th goal to make it 3-0.

NOTES·

  • Goalkeeper Agustina Miranda Waigand (Miami, Fla.) earned her 10th win of the season, recording three saves on four shots faced.
  • SNHU outshot Mercy 17-7, including 12-4 in shots on goal, and each team earned six penalty corners.
  • Dull, Battis, and Demers accounted for the three Penmen goals, with Hendriks picking up her team-leading sixth assist of the season.  
  • Demers leads the Penmen with 10 goals and 22 points.
  • The Penmen have now won five straight games and lead the all-time series with Mercy, 7-1.

UP NEXT

  • The Penmen travel to Pace University on Wednesday, October 22, for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
  • SNHU will then return home to Larkin Field on Saturday, October 25, to host Southern Connecticut State University at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
