Senior Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) erupted for a game-high 27 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to a 79-73 victory against 24th-ranked Bentley University in its home opener Wednesday night at the Stan Spirou Field House.
KEY MOMENT
  • SNHU led by as many as nine in the second half, but Bentley had sliced its deficit to a pair on a Cooper Farrall bucket with 1:35 to go. The Penmen answered with an and-1 from sophomore Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) to gather some breathing room at 74-69 with 1:03 to play.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire wins its home opener for the third consecutive season.
  • Nwachukwu made 9 of 13 shots, including 4-for-6 from downtown, while draining 5 of 7 at the line. He also dished three assists and blocked a shot.
  • Nwachukwu's double-double is his second of the season and sixth of his career.
  • Wallace tallied 21 points (7-17 FG, 2-7 3-FG, 5-7 FT), six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
  • Junior Jacari Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) registered 17 points (7-14 FG, 2-6 3-FG, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
  • Bentley leads the all-time series with SNHU, 34-32. While the teams have split the last 32 meetings, the Falcons have captured nine of the most recent 16 and seven of 12, though the Penmen have now managed to win five of the last eight, including three straight. The two teams have also split the last eight games at SNHU.
  • SNHU improves to 61-22 (.735) at home over the last seven seasons.
