Senior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) hit for 19 points to pace the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team, which hung tough early but ultimately fell 79-51 to nationally ranked #23 Bentley University in Wednesday's Northeast 10 opener at the Stan Spirou Field House.
KEY MOMENTS   
  • SNHU opened with strong inside-out balance, getting early buckets from Gordon and sophomore Samantha Pfeil (Methuen, Mass.) to stay within 20-17 after the first quarter. 
  • The Falcons used timely shooting (8-of-15) to create separation before halftime, taking a 40-31 lead despite steady play from graduate student Sydnie DeVries  (Monson, Mass.) who totaled four rebounds and two assists in the first half.
  • Bentley's offense heated up in the third quarter behind a surge from Niya Morgen, extending the lead to 58-41 despite three field goals for Gordon in the frame.
NOTES
  • Gordon delivered another efficient outing with 19 points on 7-for-7 shooting, including three three-pointers, adding three rebounds.
  • Junior Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) finished with eight points and three rebounds.
  • DeVries stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, two assists, and a blocked shot.
  • Junior Madison Hughes (Columbia, Conn.) came off the bench to score eight points and Pfeil added seven.
  • SNHU shot 34 percent overall, including 44 percent from three in the first half.  The Penmen had 12 assists on 18 field goals.
  • Bentley finished at 50 percent from the floor, led by a career-high 22 points from Morgen.
  • The Falcons improve to 53-9 all-time against the Penmen, winning the last four and eight of the last nine.

  • The Penmen will be off until Sunday, November 30 when they are scheduled to host the University of Bridgeport at 1:00 p.m.
