Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) scored a game-high 15 points, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team pulled away for a 71-38 victory over the University of Bridgeport on Sunday at the Stan Spirou Field House.
KEY MOMENTS
- SNHU led by three more than three-and-a-half minutes into the second quarter when a 13-2 blitz – led by four points from graduate student Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) – opened the lead to 30-16 with two minutes to go in the half.
- Four more from DeVries helped the Penmen score 12 straight to begin the second stanza and balloon the advantage to 47-21 less than five-and-a-half minutes in.
- SNHU again started the third quarter with 13-in-a-row – paced by four from freshman Aniela Kwo (Haverhill, Mass.) and three from classmate Izzy Terzioski (Ilion, N.Y.) – to grab its largest lead of the afternoon at 63-27 with 4:26 to play.
NOTES
- Gordon was an efficient 7-for-12 shooting, including 1-for-2 from beyond the arc. She grabbed seven rebounds, dished three assists and blocked a pair of shots.
- DeVries posted 10 points (4-4 FG, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds.
- Sophomore Taylor Brennan (Southbury, Conn.) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, handed out four assists and scored two points (1-5 FG).
- The Penmen limited the Purple Knights to 20.3 percent (15-74) shooting, including 14.3 percent (5-35) from deep. Bridgeport went 7:49 without scoring, a stretch that lasted the final 1:05 of the third quarter into the final frame.
- The Penmen trail the all-time series with Bridgeport 26-24, but SNHU has won the last eight meetings and 14 of the previous 16 with the Purple Knights. The Penmen have also won eight of the last nine, including five-in-a-row, at home in the series. The last UB win came Dec. 29, 2011 (55-53) at home, while it has not defeated SNHU on its home floor since Dec. 30, 2010 (66-53).

- The Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Dec. 10 (5 p.m.) when they take on Queens (N.Y.) College in the first of five consecutive road games.
