Graduate student Martin Fuentes (Pamplona, Spain) found the back of the net in the 76th minute and classmate Alvaro Garcia (Castelldefels, Spain) turned away all four shots he faced, as the sixth-ranked and top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team eked out a 1-0 victory against the ninth-seeded University of Bridgeport in an NCAA Championship third round tilt at Ouellette Stadium on Sunday.
KEY MOMENTS
- With the game mired in a scoreless deadlock, SNHU finally broke through with 14:11 on the clock. Sophomore Gabriel Castro (León, Spain) dropped a pass to the top of the box for graduate student Dani Gonzalez (Llanera, Spain), who one-touched a quick ball into the right side of the box. Senior Tyler Kraft (Londonderry, N.H.) chased it down near the endline, and sent a sharp pass across the goalmouth and Fuentes punched it in at the far left post.
- Garcia kept Bridgeport off the board with less than two minutes to go in regulation with a massive save. Enzo Beatrix ripped a shot from the left side of the box that deflected off a Penmen defender toward the near post, but Garcia dove and knocked it out of harm's way with a quick right hand.
