Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) recorded a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team saw a lead slip away late in a 78-71 loss to Assumption University on Saturday afternoon at Laska Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- SNHU erased a 10-0 deficit to begin the contest and increased its halftime lead from 38-37 to a game-high 11 points at 53-42 with 12:56 remaining. Senior T.J. Morris (Jamaica, N.Y.) paced the 15-5 run with nine points. Assumption responded, however, by ripping off nine-in-a-row to make it a two-point game and later used a 20-9 run to go in front, 75-69, with 1:10 left.
NOTES
- SNHU has dropped three of its last four after a 3-1 start.
- The Penmen outrebounded Assumption, 53-35, but the Greyhounds held a 23-6 advantage in points off mistakes, as SNHU turned it over 19 times, compared to Assumption's six.
- Nwachukwu was an efficient 8-for-12 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line, in addition to dishing a pair of assists.
- Morris tallied 17 points (5-13 FG, 2-3 3-FG, 5-7 FT), eight rebounds and four assists.
- Sophomore Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) had his lowest scoring output of the season, but still managed 15 points (5-14 FG, 5-7 FT), to go with five rebounds.
- Wallace has scored in double figures in all eight games this season. He leads the NE10 in scoring at 21.0 points per game.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Assumption, 40-19, and has won 18 of the last 24 meetings, though the Greyhounds have now won two straight. The Penmen have also won 10 of the last 11, including five straight, on their home court. Assumption has also captured four of six against SNHU on its home court.
