Senior Kurtis Henderson (Brockton, Mass.) poured in a career-high 31 points and stuffed the stat sheet Wednesday night, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team flipped a 13-point deficit into a 16-point lead, en route to an 86-76 triumph over Saint Anselm College at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

 KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening 3:12 behind four points from Greene, but Saint Anselm would go on a 24-4 tear to post its largest lead of the contest at 29-16 with 5:56 remaining in the first half. SNHU closed to within eight, but the Hawks would head to the locker room with a 41-30 advantage.
  • It was a 10-point game nearly three minutes into the second stanza when eight from Fricas powered a 10-2 rush that slashed the SNHU deficit to 47-45 with 15:15 to play. With Saint Anselm gathering some breathing room with a six-point lead, the Penmen ripped off 13-in-a-row – with five from Henderson and four from Choate – to go on top, 58-51, midway through the half. The gap was still seven four-and-a-half minutes later before a 9-2 spurt – led by five from Henderson and four from Greene – widened it to 14 at 77-63 with just under four minutes on the clock. The duo connected on an electrifying alley-oop that Greene hammered home with 5:02 remaining. SNHU would seize its largest lead of the night at 82-66 on a Henderson layup with 2:32 to play.

  • Senior Noah Harris (Manalapan, N.J.) chipped in three points (1-6 FG, 1-5 3-FG).
  • Saint Anselm outshot Southern New Hampshire, 46.4 percent (26-56) to 45.9 percent (34-74), including 45 percent (9-20) to 34.5 percent (10-29) from long range. Saint Anselm was also plus-seven from the stripe, though SNHU shot it better, 80 percent (8-10) to 68.2 percent (15-22).
  • The Penmen captured the glass (39-38) and the paint (42-32), scored more points off turnovers (20-8) and on the fast break (19-10), received more scoring from their bench (13-12) and submitted a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (17/8-16/14). Second chance points were even (12-12).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won seven of its last nine, including four of five and three straight.
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series with SNHU, 41-39, having won 10 of the last 15 meetings, despite the Penmen now taking four of the last six. SNHU has also won back-to-back road games in the series for the first time since Jan. 13, 1986 and Jan. 11, 1988. The teams have split the last 10 meetings at Saint Anselm. The Hawks posted an 83-81 win at SNHU back on Jan. 14 in the first regular-season meeting.
  • Greene's double-double is his 16th of the season, as well as his eighth in the last 12 games and fourth in the last five.
  • Henderson, who established a new career best with 28 points in a double-overtime win against Assumption University last Tuesday, had scored in double-figures in 13 straight before netting six in just 22 minutes at American International College on Saturday. Despite that, Henderson is averaging 21.7 ppg over his last three.
  • SNHU earns another point in the Queen City Cup standings and leads the battle for Manchester supremacy, 16-10.
