Ice Hockey Wins Two Major NE10 Awards

Collin Berke and Brendan Lynch Honored by NE10 Wednesday

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) was named the Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Year and junior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year as awards were announced on Wednesday.  Both were also named First-Team. All-Conference.  Freshman Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was named to the NE10 Second-Team and All-Rookie Team.

Berke, an All-Rookie team member last season, finished with a 2.23 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.  His five shutouts are the most in the Northeast-10 this season.

Head Coach Sean Walsh on Berke:  "A huge reason to our team's success. Collin was the backbone of our team, giving us a chance to be in and have the opportunity to win every game. With little that rattles him, he makes things look easy with his calm demeanor and bailed us out of trouble several times. A true competitor. "

Lynch, a forward, was tied for second in the NE10 with 20 assists, and his 27 points led the Penmen.  He also led the team in scoring last season and now has 70 points (19 goals, 51 assists) for his career.   Lynch has also won nearly 60 percent of face-offs in his career.

Coach Walsh on Lynch:  Not every day a forward wins defensive player of the year  (couldn't tell you the last one who won it in this league). He is relied on in every situation for us. Leading the league in Faceoff percentage (59.6%) and taking big draws throughout the game. Lead our team in +/- (+9), lead our team in points. A tremendous two-way player that is heavily relied on both ends of the ice.  A huge reason to not only our teams success as the top penalty kill in the league (at 90.6% according to NE10 stats). Very hard to play against in all 3 zones. All while taking only 1 penalty this year.

Kayser, a two-time Rookie of the Week in the NE10, tied for third on the team with 16 points (4 goals, 12 assists).

Walsh on Kayser:  This recognition for Second-Team  All-Conference and All-Rookie Team is well deserved.  Ryan had a lot of pressure and responsibility out of the gate. He provided a lot of offense to start the season and leading our defense core in scoring. As the season went on, we continued to have him in those offensive situations but also asked him to defend more and play against other teams top players and even asked to kill penalties. I'm proud of what he was able to accomplish this year.

SNHU finished the 2024-25 season at 12-15-2 including 10-8-2 in the Northeast-10.  The third-place finish earned the Penmen a home game in the Championship, a 1-0 win over Franklin Pierce University.
