Bruggeman, Lineman Each Have Three Hits Friday

Junior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) hit a three-run homer, her first of the season, as Southern New Hampshire University softball won 9-6 at Caldwell University Friday.  The host Cougars won the second game 15-3 to earn a split of the doubleheader.

GAME 1:  SNHU 9, Caldwell 6
  • The Penmen rallied from down 5-1 after three innings to secure the win.
  • Sophomore Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) singled to start the top of the second inning and scoring on a single by Lineman.
  • Donovan started the fourth inning with a single, advancing on a wild pitch and groundout before scoring on a single by Jenkins to make it 5-2.
  • The Penmen batted around in the top of the fifth to take the lead.  Feldman drove in a run which reaching on an error and Bruggeman followed with a single that tied the game at 5-5.
  • Jenkins delivered a two-run double before the big inning would end.
  • Feldman's two-run homer in the top of the 6th followed a double by freshman Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.).
  • Senior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) worked the first three innings in the circle, and Donovan (W, 3-0) finished up to earn the win.
GAME 2:  Caldwell 15, SNHU 3 (5 innings)
  • Caldwell hit three triples in an 11-run first inning and tacked on four more in the second inning.
  • O'Boyle made her collegiate debut in the circle for the Penmen and did not allow a run over three innings of work.
  • Lineman went 2-for-2 with a single, double, and drew a walk with the bases loaded.
  • Feldman had a single and an RBI groundout.
  • Bruggeman went 2-for-3 with an RBI single.
NOTES
  • SNHU leads the all-time series 7-6 including five straight before falling in today's second game.  This was the first meeting between the teams at Caldwell, although they did meet in New Jersey (at Georgian Court) in the 2016 NCAA Division II Softball Championship.
  • Lineman leads the team with a .389 average, three homers, 24 RBIs, and is currently on an 11-game hit streak.
  • Bruggeman is up to .377 with a team-leading eight doubles.

  • SNHU will conclude the road trip at Molloy University with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
  • The scheduled home opener for the Penmen is Wednesday, March 26 against American International College at 2:00 p.m.
