The Southern New Hampshire University softball team exploded for nine runs in the top of the fifth inning and went on to a 13-7 win over Clarion University Tuesday at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Penmen dropped the first game to Concordia-St. Paul 11-6.

GAME 1: Concordia-St. Paul 11, SNHU 6
- This was the first meeting between the Penmen and the Golden Bears.
- Bryleigh Dana hit her third home run of the season to give Concordia a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- SNHU responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Resetar started the game with a single and scored the run on a double steal. Donovan drove in junior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.), who had reached on a fielders choice.
- Concordia used a five-run second inning which included an RBI double by Dana to make it 7-2.
- The Penmen scored on a Resetar sacrifice fly in the second inning.
- SNHU added a run on a Donovan RBI single in the fifth and two more on a single by Abbott to right field in the sixth.
- Senior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) went the distance in the circle for the Penmen, falling to 1-2.
GAME 2: SNHU 13, Clarion 7
- Clarion scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Penmen loaded the bases in the top of the second and Abbott singled to drive in the first two runs to make it 2-1.
- SNHU extended the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Feldman.
- Clarion's big inning was the fourth, taking a 5-3 lead on a bases-loaded walk and a three-run double by Emily Buchleitner.
- The Penmen sent 15 batters to the plate, scoring nine times in the top of the fifth inning.
- Junior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) had two hits in the inning, a double, and a two-run single and Resetar drove in two runs with a double.Bruggeman also added an RBI double in the big frame. Jenkins also drove in two runs in the inning with a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout.
- Donovan relieved starter sophomore Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) in the bottom of the fourth inning, finishing up to earn the win.
- The Penmen improve to 4-0 all-time against Clarion. The most recent meeting came in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 2019, an 11-0 win.
NOTES
- Through the first six games, the Penmen have scored 42 runs (7.0/game) with 53 hits, 30 walks, and two hit-by-pitches for an OBP of .417.
- Bruggeman has hits in all six games.
- Resetar (.421), Abbott (.412), and Bruggeman (.391) lead the team in batting average.
- This is the best start for softball since winning five of the first six games in 2019 in Myrtle Beach.

- SNHU will head to the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Florida to play Felician University (12:15 p.m.) and Cedarville University (2:30 p.m.) on Thursday.
