Charlotte Donovan (Biddeford, Maine) combined to shut out Mercy University 3-0 to start play at the Space Coast Spring Games Friday. SNHU also dropped a 5-2 decisio to the University of Bridgeport.

GAME 1: SNHU 3, Mercy 0
- The Penmen improve to 4-0 all-time against Mercy. The teams had last met in Florida in 2018.
- SNHU scored a run in the top of the first inning. Junior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) reached on a hit and error, moving to third on a groundout by senior Mackenzie Bruggeman (Trumbull, Conn.). DeMoura delivered the single that scored Feldman.
- The Penmen took advantage of an error by Mercy to score the game's other two runs. Lineman singled and sophomore Grace Jenkins (Groton, Conn.) laid down a bunt. Mercy fielded the ball, but overthrew second base looking for a force and the ball carried all the way to center field allowing both Lineman and Jenkins to score.
- In the circle, Colbert allowed only a lead-off single in the first and Donovan allowed two hits to earn the save while working the final three innings.
GAME 2: Bridgeport 5, SNHU 2
- After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning, SNHU rallied to make it 3-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth. DeMoura singled, scoring on a triple by Donovan. Lineman followed with a single.
- The Penmen struggled to move base runners in a strong effort in the circle by Bridgeport's Kaite Burawski, stranding six runners on base.
- Freitas recorded a career-high nine strikeouts. She allowed just two unearned runs after the Purple Knights struck in the first inning.
- Bridgeport owns a 26-9 all-time mark against the Penmen and have now won four straight and nine of the last ten.
NOTES
- The Penmen went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position in each game, stranding 10 on-base in the two games.
- Bruggeman saw her hit streak snapped at eight games. DeMoura now has the longest active streak on the team at four games.
- Bruggeman still leads the team with a .361 average and .500 slugging percentage.
- DeMoura and freshman Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.) top the squad with eight RBIs in the first 10 games.
WHAT'S NEXT
- SNHU will wrap up the trip at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Florida on Saturday with a doubleheader against West Chester University (10:00 a.m.).
