The Southern New Hampshire University softball team earned a split with a solid West Chester squad as the Spring Games in Florida came to a conclusion. The Penmen finished 7-and-5 on the trip which included a 6-5 win in the opener on Saturday.

GAME 1: SNHU 6, West Chester 5
- West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Mairead Hopkins led off with her fourth home run of the season.
- SNHU was down 3-0 but rallied to take the lead in the top of the fourth frame.
- A single by DeMoura started the inning and Donovan reached on an error. Lineman drilled a two-run double and scored on a triple by Jenkins. Jenkins put the Penmen in the lead, scoring on a fielders choice grounder by freshman Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.).
- Jenkins would pick up an RBI single in the fifth, and Lineman was hit with the bases loaded in the sixth to give the Penmen a 6-3 lead.
- Senior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) started in the circle, yielding to Colbert in the third inning. Colbert pitched into the sixth before Donovan took over.
- A two-run double by Hopkins brought the Golden Rams to 6-5 and they loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning before Donovan induced a game-ending fly out.
GAME 2: West Chester 7, SNHU 1
- West Chester jumped on the Penmen early in the second game, scoring six runs on 10 hits over the first four innings.
- The lone Penmen run crossed in the fifth inning thanks to a pair of errors.
- The Golden Rams had 13 hits to three for the Penmen - one hit each for Bruggeman, Lineman, and Jenkins.
- Freshman Alyssa Tooley picked up her first win for West Chester, going the distance and allowing three walks and striking out three.
- Freshman Julia Parise (East Meadow, N.Y.) made her first career start, taking the loss.
NOTES
- SNHU and West Chester have split the eight games between the programs.
- The Golden Rams went 36-22 last year and advanced to the NCAA Division II Regionals as champion of the PSAC.
- Jenkins finished the trip 12-for-33 (.364) to lead the team.
- Bruggeman's 15 hits (including six doubles) were tops on the squad during the first 12 games.
- Lineman hit the only SNHU home run and drove in a team-high 10 runs.
- Donovan had the top numbers in the circle, working in six games in relief. She went 2-0 with two saves and allowed 2 earned runs in 13.2 IP (1.02 ERA).
