Men's Basketball Will Make 23rd Trip to NCAA Championship

Penmen collect third consecutive NCAA tourney selection

INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team earned its 23rd selection to the NCAA Championship tournament – and third straight – when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 64 teams Sunday evening.

Southern New Hampshire (21-8), which received an automatic bid as the NE10 Champion for the second consecutive year, earns the East Region's No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Assumption University (19-9) in the opening round Saturday, March 15 (12 p.m.) at Daemen University, which is hosting the East Regional at Lumsden Gymnasium. The Greyhounds lost in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Championship. SNHU swept the regular-season series, edging Assumption on the road, 69-66, back on Jan. 8, before capturing an 83-82, double-overtime thriller at home Feb. 11. The Penmen lead the all-time series, 40-17, while the teams have split a pair of NCAA postseason meetings, with the most recent coming in 2013.

The winner of SNHU/Assumption will meet the victor of second-seeded Adelphi University (26-7) and seventh-seeded Dominican (N.Y.) University (20-8) on Sunday (March 16). The winner from that contest will punch its ticket to the regional final on Tuesday (March 18).

The Elite Eight will take place at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., with the quarterfinals March 25, the semifinals March 27 and the NCAA National Championship Game on March 29. The quarterfinals and semifinals of the Division II Men's Basketball Championship will be carried on ESPN+ while the final will be carried on CBS.

SNHU, coming of an NCAA East Region title last season, will be making its 23rd appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship, including third straight, and carries in a record of 31-22 (.585). The Penmen own eight NCAA East Region crowns, in addition to a pair of Final Four appearances.
