Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) completed the first no-hitter in eight years as SNHU Softball beat American International College 14-0 in the first game of Friday's doubleheader. The Penmen rallied to win the nightcap 8-2 to finish off a sweep.

GAME 1: SNHU 14, AIC 0 (5 inning no-hitter)
- Freitas allowed only one base runner - a first inning walk to Destiny McGrath.
- The Penmen scored five runs in the second inning and broke the game open with nine runs in the third inning.
- Bruggeman had a two-run single in the second to make it 5-0.
- Abbott's first career-homer, a three-run shot in the third, made it 8-0
- The Penmen followed with four RBI singles by sophomore Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.), Donovan, Lineman, and sophomore Grace Jenkins (Groton, Conn.).
- A two-run double by Alto gave the Penmen two more runs.
GAME 2: SNHU 8, AIC 2
- Bruggeman broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single to left field in the fifth inning.
- A two-out double by AIC's Morgan Bemont and a wild pitch gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth.
- AIC starter Gabrielle Lambert retired the first two SNHU hitters in the sixth, but eight consecutive hitters reached as the Penmen scored seven times.
- Feldman delivered the game-winning single for the Penmen.
- Colbert struck out eight to secure her eighth win.
NOTES
- On Senior Day, the Penmen honored three athletes - Freitas, Bruggeman, and senior Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.).
- The 14 runs matched a season-high for the Penmen.
- Feldman had hits in each game and has an eight-game hit streak.
- Resetar (.374), Lineman (.364), and Bruggeman (.357) lead SNHU's offense, which is tops in the Northeast-10 conference (.313).
- The no-hitter was the first for the program since Sarah Lavallee no-hit post on April 10, 2017. There have been 11 no-hitters in program history, six by Ali Maloof including both perfect games.
- AIC leads the all-time series with the Penmen 33-22, although SNHU has won five straight and 11 of the last 12.
- The Penmen (8-4) hold a half-game lead over Saint Anselm (8-5) for second place in the NE10, with Pace (14-0) holding first-place.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen will meet New Haven on Monday, April 21 (2 p.m.) at the SNHU Softball Field. The teams will pick up the suspended game from earlier this week, which is the first game of an NE10 doubleheader.
