Wilmington scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally past Southern New Hampshire 4-2 in the first game of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship in Delaware on Thursday.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Penmen jumped ahead early when sophomore Charlotte Donovan (Biddeford, Maine) led off the second inning with a single and scored on Lineman's double to right-center. Abbott's two-out triple over the head of Wilmington's right fielder brought Lineman home, giving SNHU a 2-0 lead.
- The Wildcats put together back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth to score their first run. Haley Grigo scored on a double by Maddie Volmar, who then scored on a double by Sydney Hatch.
- Wilmington started the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of singles, and Grace Mabrey broke the tie with a two-run single to right field.
- SNHU stranded two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth and went down in order in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Senior Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) led off the game with a single to left field for the Penmen, but was stranded at second after a sacrifice by junior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass).
- Jenkins and sophomore Mikaya Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.) had consecutive two-out singles in the top of the fourth, but SNHU did not score.
- Senior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) started in-the-circle, allowing the first two runs.
- Sophomore Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) took over in the fourth, and also allowed two runs. She recorded three strikeouts.
- Wilmington turned the game over Delani Sheehan in the second inning, and she earned the win with six innings of scoreless relief.
NOTES
- This was the seventh all-time meeting between SNHU and Wilmington, with the Penmen holding a 4-3 lead.
- The teams previously met in the NCAA tournament in 2014 at New Haven, a game the Penmen won 1-0.
- SNHU is participating in the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 2019 season when they recorded a pair of wins over Georgian Court, but fell twice at Saint Anselm College.
- Wilmington is the two-time NCAA East Region champion and were receiving votes in the NFCA Weekly Poll.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen will next play on Friday in an elimination game against either Goldey-Beacom College or the University of Bridgeport. Goldey-Beacom is hosting the regional.
