HIGHLIGHTS

- SNHU would not be denied in a four-run second inning which started with a single to left by sophomore Grace Jenkins (Groton, Conn.). Sophomore Mikaya Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed with a walk. Bridgeport tried to force a runner on a grounder by Resetar, and Jenkins scored on a throwing error on the play. Feldman reached on an error for another run, and Bruggeman brought in two more with her double to right-center for a 4-1 lead.
- Freitas worked into the sixth inning, giving way to Colbert after a lead-off double by Emily Chase of Bridgeport. She advanced to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by D'Amato to make it 4-2.
- Colbert set down all six batters she faced to preserve the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Defense doesn't always reflect in the box score, but note that DeMoura, who had been hit by pitch in the second inning, took a line drive off her hand in the third. She stayed in the game, and made a tremendous dive to stop a ball down the line and recovered to force a Purple Knight runner at third to end the top of the third inning.
- Bridgeport received solid support from reliever Vise Zarate, who did not allow a run after coming into the game after the Penmen had opened the 4-1 lead.
- The Purple Knights had eight hits, and left nine on base. The Penmen had six hits while stranding eight runners.
NOTES
- The game was originally scheduled to be played at Goldey-Beacom College, but steady rain resulted in a venue switch to Wilmington University's field.
- The Penmen snap a five-game losing streak overall, and a four-game streak to UB. Bridgeport still leads the all-time series 26-10. This was the first post-season meeting between the programs.
- SNHU is participating in the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 2019 season when they recorded a pair of wins over Georgian Court, but fell twice at Saint Anselm College.
- Wilmington is the two-time NCAA East Region champion and were receiving votes in the NFCA Weekly Poll. The Wildcats topped Goldey-Beacom 3-2 in the day's first game, and will await the winner of Saturday's elimination game between the Penmen and Goldey-Beacom. Goldey-Beacom is playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen will play Goldey-Beacom at it's Jackson Athletic Complex at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wilmington will play the winner of that game at about 3:30 p.m.
