#8 Field Hockey Wins Road Game as van de Poll scores again

The No. 8 Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team earned its first win of the 2025 campaign Wednesday night, blanking Southern Connecticut State University 2–0 in a non-conference contest at Jess Dow Field.

KEY MOMENT
  • Senior forward Minke van de Poll (Oosterbeek, Netherlands) put the Penmen on the board in the 22nd minute, finishing a penalty corner with an assist from junior Abby Forbes (Boscawen, N.H.). The tally marked van de Poll's team-leading second goal of the season and gave SNHU momentum heading into halftime.
NOTES
  • Freshman Agustina Miranda Waigand (Miami, Fla.) made 10 saves and earned her first career shutout, playing all 60 minutes.
  • The Penmen picked up a key insurance goal at the end of the third quarter when freshman Addi Roy (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored off a feed from sophomore Julia Giampietro (Sandwich, Mass.).   It was Roy's first career-goal.
  • Southern New Hampshire is ranked 8th in the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) pre-season poll. 
  • Southern New Hampshire opened the season with contests against #1 Kutztown, and the second-ranked and defending national champion Hawks.
  • The Penmen won a ninth consecutive contest with Southern Connecticut State, and lead the all-time series 9-2.   
  • This was a non-conference contest between the rivals. The Northeast 10 match-up is scheduled for Saturday, October 25 on Larkin Field at SNHU.
UP NEXT
  • SNHU's home opener at Larkin Field will be Saturday, Sept. 13 at 12:00 p.m. in a first-ever meeting with Lincoln Memorial University.
