Philipp Herrmann (Bruckmuehl, Germany) struck twice in the first 30 minutes to help guide the 19th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team to a 4-2 victory against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Thursday afternoon in the season opener at Ouellette Stadium.

- Junior Charlie Preus (London, U.K.) subbed into the match in the 25th minute and scored less than 20 seconds later to double the Penmen advantage and allow Herrmann to notch his second of the game to make it 3-0 four-and-a-half minutes later.

- Southern New Hampshire, ranked 19th in the initial United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, has now captured four straight season openers.
- Southern New Hampshire improves to 5-0 all-time versus St. Thomas Aquinas, including 4-0 at home (2-0 at Ouellette Stadium).
