Dillon Labonte (Lee, N.H.) opened his senior season in style for the Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team, racing to the individual title at the 43rd annual Shacklette Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Penmen placed
fifth overall in the team standings.
KEY MOMENT
- Labonte surged to the front from the opening mile and never looked back, clocking a winning time of 27:05 over the 8-kilometer course at St. Anselm. He pulled away from Plymouth State's Max Goodman and St. Michael's Braden Butler in the final stretch to secure a decisive 42-second victory margin over the team scoring runner-up.
NOTES
- Junior Eric Sekyaya (Burlington, Mass.) gave SNHU a second top-10 finisher, crossing in seventh place with a time of 28:41. Senior Carter Sylvester (Northwood, N.H.) also cracked the top 20, finishing 20th in 29:46.
- Freshman Jackson Bock (Danbury, Conn.) impressed in his collegiate debut, taking 43rd in 32:07, while classmate Roman Macedo (Pennsburg, Pa.) placed 47th in 33:12 to close out the Penmen's scoring five.
- Assumption (55) won the meet, with St. Michael's (60) second, and Plymouth State (64) in third place. Saint Anselm was fourth (72) and the Penmen wound up fifth (93).
- The Northeast 10 Championship race will be run at Saint Anselm College on Sunday, October 26.
