Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) dumped in a career- and game-high 27 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team suffered a 72-55 defeat against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at the Moore Fieldhouse.
KEY MOMENTS
- Southern New Hampshire never led in the contest, but was within one less than seven minutes into the game when eight straight put Southern Connecticut up, 21-12, with 12:01 remaining. The Owls would carry a 36-26 lead to the break.
- The gap was 12 less than seven minutes into the second half when a 12-4 run gave SCSU its largest lead of the afternoon at 60-40 with 7:25 to play. SNHU responded with a 15-5 burst – led by nine from Wallace – that slashed its deficit to 10 at 65-55 with 2:08 remaining, but the Penmen could not get the margin to single digits.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire had won three of its last four, but has now lost five of its last eight, including two straight.
- The 55 points are the fewest SNHU has scored in a game since a 73-46 loss to Bentley University in the second round of the NCAA East Region Championship on March 12, 2023.
- Wallace was 11-for-18 from the field, 3-for-7 from behind the arc, and 2-for-3 at the stripe. He also grabbed three rebounds.
- Senior T.J. Morris (Jamaica, N.Y.) was the only other Penmen in double figures with 10 points (3-9 FG, 4-4 FT).
- SNHU leads the all-time series with SCSU, 59-28, and has won seven of the last 11, though the Owls have now captured three straight. Southern Connecticut has also won two straight at home versus the Penmen.
- Wallace has scored in double figures in all 13 contests this season and continues to lead the NE10 in scoring (21.6 ppg).
