Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) established a new career best with 30, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team was handed a 92-81 loss by cross-town rival Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at the Stan Spirou Field House.
KEY MOMENTS
- Southern New Hampshire led by three a little more than three minutes into the contest when Saint Anselm ripped off a 21-4 run to take a 26-12 lead just past the midway point of the half. The Hawks brought a 49-33 advantage to the break.
- SNHU would get as close as 10 in the second half, but the Hawks went up by as many as 24.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has dropped six of its last nine, four of its last five and three straight.
- This is the latest in the season SNHU has been under .500 since 2010-11 when it started 6-9.
- Wallace shot 12-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-4 from long range, and 4-for-6 fom the stripe. He added a pair of rebounds.
- Senior Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) posted 14 points (6-11 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 1-3 FT), seven rebounds and two assists.
- Senior T.J. Morris (Jamaica, N.Y.) was also in double figures with 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-2 3-FG), to go with three boards.
- Sophomore Dante Green (Dix Hills, N.Y.) netted nine points (3-3 FG, 3-5 FT), grabbed four rebounds and dished a pair of assists.
- Saint Anselm takes a 42-41 lead in the all-time series, as it snaps a three-game losing skid against SNHU. The Penmen were 92-80 victors at Saint Anselm earlier this season on Dec. 13. The Hawks also win for the seventh time in the last time meetings at SNHU.
- Wallace has scored in double figures in all 14 contests this season and continues to lead the NE10 in scoring (22.2 ppg).
- SNHU dips to 64-25 (.719) at home over the last seven seasons and falls to 4-3 this year. The Penmen have now last consecutive games at home for the first time since Nov. 22-27, 2022 when lost to No. 19 Bentley University (78-60) and No. 16 Dominican University (78-75).
- With three meetings between the two teams this season, neither team earned points in the Queen City Cup standings, but SNHU does lead, 8-7.
