Junior Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team dropped a 72-50 decision to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at the Moore Fieldhouse.
KEY MOMENTS
- Southern Connecticut led by one with a little more than two minutes to play in the opening half when it scored eight straight in just over a minute and took a 31-24 lead into the break.
- It was a three-point game with six-and-a-half minutes to go in the third, but the Owls again ended the quarter strong, scoring 17 of the final 21 to grab a commanding, 50-34, advantage.
NOTES
- After winning four-in-a-row, Southern New Hampshire has dropped two straight.
- Winterburn's five assists match the career high she set Wednesday, while her three steals established a new career best. She was 5-for-13 from the field, including 1-for-5 from deep.
- Senior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) posted nine points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3-FG), six rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocks.
- Southern Connecticut leads the all-time series, 44-31, as it has captured five of the last eight and three of the last four. The Owls have also won three straight at home in the series. SNHU's last win in New Haven against SCSU came Nov. 19, 2022 (58-55).
