Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) went for a game-high 30 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team suffered a 73-72 loss to American International College on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer Saturday at Butova Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- American Int'l jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the opening 7:20, but SNHU answered with a 29-7 barrage – led by nine apiece from Nwachukwu and sophomore Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) – to open up a 35-25 advantage with 1:14 left before the break. AIC would trim its deficit to 35-29 at halftime.
- SNHU was in front, 69-59, with four minutes remaining when the Yellow Jackets scored six straight to make it a one-possession game at 69-66 with 2:47 left. The Penmen led, 72-67, with just over 30 seconds on the clock when Tony Felder nailed a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game. After the Penmen missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 23 ticks left, Felder again buried a triple as time expired to lift AIC to victory.

- Southern New Hampshire has lost seven of its last eight.
- Nwachukwu was an efficient 9 of 11 from the floor, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, and 9 of 10 from the stripe, while bringing down nine rebounds and collecting three assists.
- Wallace tallied 22 points (9-19 FG, 2-4 3-FG, 2-5 FT), three rebounds and four assists.
- Senior Ray Daniels (Las Vegas, Nev.), drawing his first start of the season produced eight points (3-9 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 1-3 FT) and seven rebounds in a season-high 26 minutes.
- SNHU, which leads the all-time series, 35-15, has won 11 of the last 15 meetings against the Yellow Jackets, who snap a three-game skid against the Penmen. Southern New Hampshire had also won six of eight in Springfield, including three of four, prior to the defeat.
- Wallace has scored in double figures in all 20 contests this season and continues to lead the NE10 in scoring (22.2 ppg).
