Sophomore Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) connected on a career-high seven 3-pointers and notched a game-best 29 points to guide the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to a 63-58 victory at Saint Michael's College on Wednesday night at the Ross Sports Center.
KEY MOMENTS
  • SNHU held a one-point lead with just under seven minutes left in the opening half when 13 straight points – with eight coming from Wallace – gave the Penmen their largest lead of the stanza at 33-19 with 3:16 left. They would go into the break with a 35-23 advantage.
  • A pair of 3-pointers from senior Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) pushed the Penmen lead to a game-high 16 at 43-27 less than four minutes into the second half, but a 21-7 barrage later in the contest slashed the SMC deficit to 58-56 with 29 seconds to go. The Penmen went 5-for-6 from the line the rest of the way, however, to hold on.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, which had lost seven of its last eight, snaps a three-game losing skid. The Penmen defeat Saint Michael's, which had won 14 of its last 18.
  • Wallace went 10-for-24 from the field, including 7-for-12 from 3-point land, and 2-for-2 from the line, while grabbing six rebounds.
  • Nwachukwu posted 17 points (5-7 FG, 4-5 3-FG, 3-4 FT) and seven rebounds.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 47-17, and has won 22 of the last 28 meetings, including 11 of 14, though SMC has captured two of the last three, which have all taken place this season. The Purple Knights scored a 78-71 home victory back on Nov. 25 and then posted a 79-64 win at SNHU on Jan. 7. The SMC home win in November snapped a six-game winning streak for the Penmen in Colchester, as the Purple Knights defended their home court against SNHU for the first time since Feb. 6, 2019. The Penmen have now won eight of the last 10, including seven of eight, on the road in the series.
  • Wallace has scored in double figures in all 21 contests this season and continues to lead the NE10 in scoring (22.6 ppg). Wallace has now netted 20-plus points in eight straight and is averaging 24.6 ppg during the stretch, which includes four performances of 27 or more.
WHAT'S NEXT
