Women's Basketball Win Streak Snapped by Saint Michael's

Samantha Pfeil Nets Career-High 13 To Lead Penmen

The Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 78-65 loss to Saint Michael's College in Northeast 10 play on Wednesday evening at the Stan Spirou Field House.   Sophomore Samantha Pfeil (Methuen, Mass.) lead SNHU with a career-high 13 points.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Saint Michael's used a strong start to build an early advantage, and never trailed, opening the game on a 12-4 run and taking a 20-12 lead after the first quarter. The Purple Knights continued to control the tempo in the second period, extending their lead to 41-28 at the halftime break.
  • SNHU managed to cut the lead to seven points in the final quarter, but fell short in the comeback bid.
NOTES
  • Pfeil led the Penmen with a career-high 13 points, connecting on five field goals.  Her three three-pointers were also a new personal mark.
  • Senior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) added 12 points and six rebounds, while junior Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) chipped in 11 points, four rebounds, and a career-best five assists.
  • Sophomore Taylor Brennan (Southbury, Conn.) added seven points and seven rebounds and freshman Aniela Kwo (Haverhill, Mass.) had six points and six rebounds.
  • Saint Michael's shot efficiently from the field (40.0 percent) and at the free-throw line (79 percent), while SNHU was held to 65 points for the first time since December 10.
  • The Purple Knights continue to hold the advantage in the all-time series 33-28, though the Penmen have won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen head to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday (1/10) for a 1:30 p.m. contest with the Owls.
  • The next home game is next Tuesday (1/13) when SNHU will play host to cross-town rival Saint Anselm College at 5:30 p.m.
