Gabriel Castro (León, Spain) of the eighth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team was selected as the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 25, the league office announced Monday.
Castro, who also earned the honor back on Sept. 14, anchored a defensive unit that posted a pair of shutouts in a 1-0-1 week for SNHU. Castro's back line limited the two Penmen opponents to just nine shots, including one on target, in 180 minutes of soccer.
Castro has started all 15 matches he has played in, leading a defensive unit that paces the NE10 in shutouts (10), goals allowed (10) and goals-against average (0.63). Offensively, Castro ranks third on the team in points with six goals and two assists for 14 points.
