Junior Gabriel Castro (León, Spain) headed home the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to ignite a three-goal second half, as the fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium.
KEY MOMENTS
- After a scoreless opening half, sophomore Gabi Barroso (A Coruña, Spain) connected with Castro at 60:59, with Castro heading home his fourth goal of the season to put the Penmen in front.
- Senior Eduardo Maia (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) doubled the lead less than seven minutes later, scoring his third goal of the season off a feed from fifth year Alejo Caceres (Córdoba, Argentina) on a corner kick.
- Fifth year Miguel Gimeno (Pamplona, Spain) capped the scoring at 78:27 with his fourth goal of the year, with Barroso collecting his second assist of the match with a perfect pass to the front of the net.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, remains unbeaten through its first 11 matches at 8-0-3.
- Castro's goal was his fourth of the season and proved to be his second game-winning goal of the campaign.
- Barroso recorded a pair of assists, giving him three on the season.
- Maia's goal was his third of the season, while Gimeno's was his fourth.
- Fifth year Alvaro Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) stopped all five shots he faced to record his seventh shutout of the season.
- The Penmen outshot Bentley, 25-11, including 14-5 in the second half. SNHU also held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
- SNHU improves to 34-5-6 all-time against Bentley and has won three of the last four meetings.
